DIAS
Mature is a boring word. Most of the time it means you’re not willing to take any risk and think too much. But letting your music sound mature when you are a young man, the word suddenly becomes super cool. The 20-year-old Ifang Bremer from Nijmegen surprised us when he sent us his track Dias. Dias contains a deep & warm beat, a fat synth in the break, while the poem of Fernando Pessoa finds his way through the beat. We were eager to hear more, so Ifang sent more. What you’re about to hear is something electronic inspired by disco, new wave, Southern Europe and cinematic composition. We love it.
INSPIRATION
JENNA THIAM
French actress Jenna Thiam appears in the 2013 TV-series Les Revenants: a gorgeously subtle, sinister drama that covers the story of loved ones returning from their graves – not as the typical zombie – but seemingly exactly how they were alive. Struck by Thiam’s beauty I made the song Jenna that will appear on this release. I never really intended to make a song about her, but I guess her stunning appearance accompanied by the captivating soundtrack by Scottish post-rock band Mogwai got my inspiration going.
BARCELONA ARTISTS
In the summer of 2014 I got lost in a massive crowd during the Festa De Gràcia in Barcelona. My phone was dead, my friends were gone and I had no clue where I was. At one point I just surrendered to the situation and allowed myself to stop thinking for a brief moment. All I sensed was the sweltering, hairdryer-like heat, the cheerful people and the colourful streets around me. This intense experience combined with listening to Barcelona scene artists such as Pional and John Talabot influenced this release a lot.
SERIES OF OUR TIME
I think that TV series and videogames are the masterworks of our time. They inspire me a lot in making music as well. I watch a lot of TV-series, sometimes I feel like I should spend more time making music and less time on Netflix. The difference between a movie and a 6 season series to me is the depth of the characters and the storyline(s). I love it when the cinematography, the soundtrack and the story together make a unique atmosphere and leave me in awestruck.
80’S NEW WAVE
The melancholic feel of 80’s new wave never seems to get old to me. In my music I’m always in search of a sense of nostalgia. I find that in bands such as Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark, Depeche Mode and The Cure. It’s a weird thing though… This music does not simply feel nostalgic because it’s old; after all I wasn’t even born in the 80’s. I guess this feel of sentimentality just runs through the veins of this musical era.
